FAQ

Who are we?

We are The Eco-Socialists, named that way because our project encompasses both an eco and a social side. This is our second year in the Citi-YMCA Youth For Causes program and details of our 2010 project can be found here.

Which organisation are we supporting?

Money donated would go to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Community Charity Fund. This would go a long way in providing financial support for needy patients and their families for medical treatment or services, non-standard drugs, daily aids, equipments (wheelchairs/oxygen ventilators), home care services and training for caregivers.

More information about TTSH Community Charity Fund can be foundĀ here.

What is this project about?

Our project is an eco-social project aimed at raising social awareness of our Volunteer Welfare Organisation (VWO), the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Community Charity Fund, and at the same time, spreading the environmental message to reuse, reduce and recycle at the same time.

There would be two parts to our project. Firstly, the street sales, which would be held throughout the entire span of the project. The second, and most important part of our project, is folding as many frogs during the one hour timeframe, in an attempt to break the Singapore Book of Records for “The Most Number of Frogs Folded In One Hour”. The current record stands at 2293 frogs, but we hope to be able to fold 15 000 frogs. Also, we are hoping to receive sponsorship, where companies would donate 50 cents per frog folded.

Why frogs?

Frogs are a symbol for purity and transformation, and thus, similar to cranes, inspires hope in patients. It is also a symbol of ecology and nature, and through this, we hope to also be able to help spread awareness of ecological conservation.

What will we do with the folded frogs after the event?

These frogs will be given to the patients of TTSH, as well as being sold to the public to raise awareness for our cause.
