About
Our project is an eco-social service learning project and we hope to raise social awareness on our Volunteer Welfare Organisation (VWO).Our VWO is the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Community Charity Fund, which was established to help needy patients by actively providing financial support for needy patients and their families in the aspect.
Through this project, our team aims to not only raise funds for our VWO, but also spread awareness on the needy patients at large and the emotional support they need from the public, which can be represented by the frogs folded as frogs are a symbol for purity and transformation, and thus similar to cranes, inspires hope in patients. Also, via this project, we aim to spread social awareness and an environment message to reduce, reuse, and recycle at the same time, as the frog is also a symbol of ecology and nature.
In its second year running, we hope to continue the spirit of raising funds for a social cause while engaging the public in our fund raising activities and minimizing the environmental impact of these activities. In our previous run, we managed to engage a total of 1405 students from 32 different schools, staff from Tan Tock Seng Hospital as well as 80 core volunteers in our fund-raising activities, raising a total of S$18,000 for charity. With the Fold-A-Crane Event (FACE), our volunteers folded a total of 27, 446 cranes, thus raising a total of 2750kg of rice. More information of our 2010 Citibank-YMCA Youth for Causes project, Appassionato 2010, can be foundĀ here.
This year, we’re back for more, with our Fold-A-Frog Event, where we hope to fold a total of 15, 000 frogs! The event is set for 13 August 2011.
